The U.S. Climate Alliance’s 2020 Clean Energy Employment Report finds that Alliance members employed more than 2.1 million Americans in this sector before the pandemic struck, and demonstrates that climate leadership, economic growth, and strong job creation go hand in hand. Overall, between 2016 and 2019, Alliance states created 133,100 clean energy jobs, a growth rate of almost 7% and while Alliance states accounted for 55% of all U.S. jobs at the end of 2019, they supported 60% of all clean energy jobs across the country. According to the data, the energy efficiency sector continued to dominate clean energy employment, with two-thirds of the clean energy workforce in Alliance states employed in this sector at the end of 2019. 

The report also notes that while more and more workers in Alliance states shifted to full-time clean energy employment, there are still significant opportunities for job and technical training across the U.S. as we build back the economy. These positions offer workers significant advantages and many clean energy jobs in the Alliance states provide above-average wages and employment benefits.
