Puerto Rico Acts to Protect the Biologically Diverse El Yunque National Forest

In 2022, Governor Pierluisi signed an executive order protecting El Yunque National Forest and its ecosystem. At nearly 29,000 acres, it is one of the smallest in land area, but is also one of the most biologically diverse national forests. Through the order, the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources will collaborate with the Forest Legacy Program of the U.S. Forest Service to connect El Yunque with the Northeast Ecological Corridor Nature Reserve.
