States, which have varying needs and capacity, will utilize and share best practices to bolster resilience and tailor effective solutions.

Maryland Makes State History by Appointing First Chief Resilience Officer

In November 2023, Maryland Governor Wes Moore appointed a Chief Resilience Officer and a Chief Sustainability Officer for the first time in the state’s history to help spearhead a whole-of-government approach to addressing climate change. The Chief Resilience Officer will ensure Maryland is prepared to adapt, mitigate, and recover from all hazards and emergencies, including disasters that have increased in frequency and intensity from climate change.
