Maine Surpasses Medium-Term GHG Emissions Reduction Goals

In June 2024, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection released its 2024 inventory report, which shows that, as of 2021, the state had reduced its gross GHG emissions to 30% below 1990 levels, surpassing its medium-term goal. Further, the state’s lands sequestered a greater proportion of its gross GHG emissions than previous years, moving Maine closer to carbon neutrality.
